It’s Raining Frogs. Actually though!
Much of the country has been wracked by storms this week, which got me thinking. In Atlanta we don’t tend to get snow very often. If you’ve seen the news over the last few winters, you may have some idea of how well we deal with it. However, there is another type of weather that no one can really plan for.
There have been reports of frogs falling from the sky, stretching from the depths of history, all the way to the modern age. Every once in a while, a town will have to deal with the unusual problem of frogs falling from the sky. At one time it may have been easy to dismiss stories like this as just stories, but at the trend continued- usually no more than once in a decade- the evidence became clear: it can rain frogs.
Of course, it’s not really raining frogs. If a strong storm forms a over an ocean or other body of water and creates a tornado, the tornado will actually turn into what is called a waterspout, and the water will actually get sucked up into the storm. And much in the same way that things on the ground can be pulled into a tornado, things in the water can be pulled into the waterspout. Small animals like frogs don’t stand a chance. Cool site.
If this storm then moves on to land, well, everything that goes up must come down. Along with regular rain, any wildlife that had been sucked up will rain down as well. Hence, frog rain. Of course, other animals are also sucked up- fish and crabs are often caught I waterspouts as well. Sometimes, even boats will get picked up, and dropped down somewhere inland.
So next time you’re struggling through bad weather, remember, at least it’s not frogs.
